Book A Show

New for Autumn 2016, Spring 2017 Mr Darcy Loses the Plot.

It is an early autumn day, mist rising above the meadow. Jane Austen sits at her little writing desk, the log fire exploding embers, her quill pen scratching furiously against the vellum.

She is dreaming of Mr Darcy and as her creation takes form he appears before our eyes - a proud, arrogant, lip curling, handsome creation in uncomfortably tight pants. But then a door squeaks, a visitor approaches and Jane hastily covers up her work and departs. Left dangling, what is Mr Darcy to do? Bitterly wondering who on earth dreamed up his blooming breeches, Darcy starts to embroider his own storyline while his creator embroiders her doilies. And what of the formidable Miss Brockhurst, a character Jane has cut, who takes every opportunity to elbow her way back into the storyline or indeed anyone's storyline!

LipService explores the world of women writers, Austen, Bronte, Gaskell, scribbling in secret or under pseudonyms, squeezing in their writing amongst the domestic hustle and bustle of lace stitching, ribbon buying, and badger baiting. (Or will that last one get cut?)

The Hysterical Historical Show - available all year round!

Audrey & Olivia, stalwarts of the National Institute for Bringing History To Life Society take you on an historical journey that is part theatre, part pub quiz and a 100% passionate tribute to some of the great women in history.
We meet notorious gossip Mrs Gaskell and her timid friend Charlotte Bronte, challenge a rather contradictory Marie Stopes, stage a protest with the ever radical Pankhursts, meet gritty Northern playwright Shelagh Delaney and many more. Nothing is sacred. But we hope you have been paying attention because there will be a test, not a very serious one, with points and points mean prizes. Suitable for studio venues, rural touring, WI's and private functions. Brilliant for Christmas parties and corporate events.
